Piston ring size chart
- Purpose
- Use a piston ring size chart to compile matching RFQ specifications before sample or order approval.
Distinguish requested ring dimensions from verified supplier declarations. This page does not claim Pistonlane Sourcing owns a quality lab, completed factory audits or certified capacity figures.
Specification Review decision points
Requested parameters
State bore diameter, compression height, pin diameter, skirt profile, material grade, ring-groove widths and depths, axial heights from the size chart, and the vehicle year/make/model with engine code. Include units on every dimensional value and note whether the OE reference is for identification only.
Supplier response
Ask the supplier to identify piston model, ring set revision, declared size-chart basis, packing unit and any deviations from the submitted envelope. A catalog photo alone is not a response. Request a supplier declaration that separates coated versus uncoated rings when both are offered.
Evidence scope
Match piston drawings, ring size charts, packing lists, sample approval notes and batch traceability identifiers to the exact part and legal entity quoting. Do not treat a plant quality certificate as proof that a specific ring heat lot was inspected. Warranty scope and Incoterms belong on the same evidence sheet as destination ZIP code.
Unresolved points
Record missing groove clearance data, hardware exclusions, minimum order quantity questions and sample timing before approving a sample or production order. Optional target budget (currency, per-piston or whole-order) and supplier preference remain buyer tradeoffs used to shortlist quotes, not verified ratings.
When comparing two piston ring size chart proposals, align bore, groove count, axial heights, included pins and freight basis first. Only then decide whether a premium, mid-range or budget-friendly preference changes which plant should receive a follow-up sample request.
Specification Review trade-offs
New versus remanufactured: Keep new and remanufactured piston or ring proposals on separate comparison rows. Request the disclosed supply condition, core charge when applicable, and the inspection evidence that belongs to that condition.
Complete kits versus individual parts: If the RFQ uses a size chart for rings only, do not mix it with a piston-and-ring kit price. Confirm which axial heights, OE reference and packing unit belong to each line.
Sample acceptance versus batch consistency: Retain the approved size-chart revision and sample ID. Agree which groove-width or coating checks will still apply to later batches before treating the sample as production-ready.
